Texas Association of Museums Meeting and BVMNH Reception

The Texas Association of Museums conference will take place at the College Station Hilton from March 16-19.

Local museums have worked closely with TAM in planning the conference. The local planning committee was co-chaired by Dr. Deborah Cowman with the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History and Ms. Lisa Kalmus-Smith with the Sanders Corps of Cadets Museum.

Opening Lecture and Reception: Enduring Transformation

The exhibit will premiere at 5:30 pm, Thursday, February 18, with a free reception open to the general public. This event will feature a fascinating presentation by Dr. Cynthia Werner of TAMU’s Department of Anthropology and Dr. Holly Barcus of Macalester College’s Department of Geography, originators of the research upon which the exhibit is based.

Access Nature Teacher Workshop

In conjunction with the Showcase, the Museum is offering an Access Nature Teacher Workshop on February 6 from 9 am to 4 pm to train educators to utilize Access Nature, a National Wildlife Federation curriculum. Access Nature is a complete curriculum designed to align with National Science Education Standards for outdoor science. Targeting students ages 6-14, it focuses on habitats while developing environmental awareness and leadership skills.
