4th Annual Wish Upon a Butterfly

Wish Upon a ButterflyButterflies will fill the skies Saturday, July 25, 2015, in a mid-morning event, "Wish Upon a Butterfly" at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History in a series of public events building up to a coordinated release of live, winged symbols: signature icons of transformation, hope and awe.

This annual fundraiser will take place from 9am-12pm, paying homage and well-wishes to celebration, childhood wonder, the memory and presence of loved ones, fallen or deployed service members, new beginnings and more. Following the light reception at check-in, guests will complete their written wishes—as a personal keepsake, for public display or both--and prepare to receive their purchased butterflies for the 10am-release. During this time, guests will enjoy live music by Joey McGee and free admission to the Museum’s exhibits including the observation bee hive and butterfly displays. Following the release, a variety of brunch-style refreshments will be served for the remainder of the event.

Butterflies are limited. Guests may now begin to pre-purchase as many butterflies as desired, $25 each (or 5 for $100), by calling the Museum and securing an order by credit card, or by mailing a check to: Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History, Butterfly Release, 3232 Briarcrest Drive, Bryan, TX 77802. Guests may purchase butterflies the day of the event if they remain available.  All proceeds benefit the Museum and will support free admission to the Museum for active-duty enlisted personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The two guests who purchase the most butterflies will also receive the opportunity to have a name of their choice engraved on a permanent plaque at the Museum.

There will be a variety of fun activities for all ages throughout the event from 9-12. The Texas A&M Garden Club will be present to distribute seeds and discuss butterfly gardening. The Master Naturalists will also host a booth to educate guests on butterflies. Entertainment will include butterfly-themed activities and crafts.  Children who come to the event in a butterfly or caterpillar themed costume will receive a special surprise. Guests will receive plantable paper butterflies embedded with a colorful variety of wildflower seeds.

Butterfly Release ParticipantWe will sell butterflies on the day, if any are still available. But butterflies are limited, so don’t delay! Don’t miss a chance to support the only natural history museum in a 100 mile radius, and to make a special wish or to honor a loved one as you release your butterfly.

Support and celebrate the beautiful natural world of the Brazos Valley with us on July 26th. The guest who purchases the most butterflies will also receive the opportunity to have a name of their choice engraved on a permanent plaque at the Museum.
